In a significant move to inspire the next generation of female innovators, Moonstar.ai Founder, Alexandra Copos de Prada, proudly announces the unveiling of a Women in Innovation Purple Plaque. This prestigious acknowledgment, awarded by Innovate UK, the UK Government’s Innovation arm, is part of a transformative initiative aiming to encourage more girls to pursue careers in STEM fields.
The Purple Plaque, a symbol of achievement and aspiration, has been affixed to the walls of the N Family Club – an environment where the seeds of innovation are sown early.
Alexandra mentioned:
I’m delighted to place this Plaque here at NFamily, where my own daughter experiences the joy of learning. In these vibrant halls, children cultivate the very qualities that define innovators and entrepreneurs, from a very young age, namely:
– A boundless curiosity that fuels discovery,
– A rich creativity that imagines the unseen,
– A spirit of collaboration that builds shared visions,
– A resilience that perseveres through challenges,
– And an experimental mindset that embraces the beauty of ‘what if.’
My technology venture, Moonstar.ai, partners with companies and helps them grow their business by building a high performance and engaged workforce.
Across the UK, these plaques are making a statement, highlighting the contributions of women who have paved the way in their respective fields. With over thousands of blue plaques commemorating historical figures nationwide, it is notable that less than 14% represent women, underscoring the critical issue of their under-representation in the media and leadership roles.
Louisa Simons, Innovate UK’s previous Chief Operating Officer, emphasizes the impact of this disparity:
Research shows that 78% of female entrepreneurs did not have business role-models of the same gender as them. Though they can, of course, find inspiration in their male counterparts, the lack of relatable role models is likely having a huge, but hidden, impact on UK innovation.
Again, this lack of female representation results in a lack of inspiration for the next generation. This is exactly why we unleashed our Purple Plaque’s initiative, to end the cycle of low-visibility by commemorating today’s trailblazing women in innovation.
The initiative is more than a gesture; it’s a call to action. It’s an acknowledgement that role models should reflect the diversity and capability of our society, and that every child should have the opportunity to see themselves in the faces of those who have achieved greatness. With the Purple Plaques, Innovate UK hopes to ignite a spark of curiosity and determination in girls to explore STEM subjects and walk in the footsteps of these remarkable role models.
At Moonstar, we are incredibly proud and humbled to be role models for the next generation of young female entrepreneurs, shaping an inclusive future, full of possibilities for all our children.
